WHO SHOULD TRYOUT FOR FEVER?
If you are a female youth or high school lacrosse player who is willing to make a commitment and wants to compete on one of the top club teams in the region, you should tryout for Fever. If you want a highly competitive experience with skilled coaches (many of whom have college coaching experience), we encourage you to stand for selection. We currently have teams for rising seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen at the high school level as well as teams for rising 5th grade through 8th graders at the youth level.
HOW ARE TEAMS CHOSEN?
We group players by (high school) graduation year. Rosters are selected by Fever staff using a scoring system during tryouts. Athletes are evaluated on a series of individual, small space and scrimmage-style drills and receive a composite score based on several criteria including: overall athleticism (speed, quickness,
strength); knowledge of the game; stick skills; competitive drive and intensity.
HOW MUCH DOES FEVER COST?
Participation fees are comprised of Membership Dues and Tournament Fees. Participation fees are paid each season (fall and summer) and vary depending on the tournaments we attend. Please visit our TEAMS page for more information and up-to-date fees for each season.
WHAT DO FEES COVER?
Membership Fees cover field rentals, coaching stipends, equipment, insurance and scholarships for each team. Tournament Fees cover tournament entry fees and coaches’ travel expense for each team. Participation fees DO NOT cover hotel, travel expenses or uniforms for players.
WHO WILL COACH MY DAUGHTER?
Fever is proud to have the best coaching staff in the region – if not the country. We are former college players and current college players (nearly all of whom are Fever alums). Many of us also coached in college at the DI level. At various times our staff has included players and coaches from the following schools: Duke, University of North Carolina, Loyola, Dartmouth, Campbell, Virginia Tech, University of Louisville, Guilford College, Robert Morris University, University of Rochester, Vanderbilt and Boston College among others.
WHEN ARE TRYOUTS?
Tryouts are held twice annually. We hold a tryout at the end of January/beginning of February to select our roster for the upcoming summer and fall seasons. After summer season, any players who choose not to return for the fall leave open spots which are filled through a smaller tryout held at the end of August/beginning of September.
ARE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE?
Yes. We understand that playing a club sport demands a great deal of time as well as money. We aim to make Fever affordable to as many people as possible. Partial and full scholarships are available. Please contact club director
Katy O’Mara for more information.
WHAT APPROACH DOES FEVER TAKE TO PLAYER DEVELOPMENT?
Starting in 2017, players are evaluated annually using a skills continuum to ensure that players are developing their skills, knowledge and athleticism throughout their club career with us. This evaluation process enables us to verify that we are providing players with access to appropriate training and resources and empowers players by making them aware of their relative strengths as well as areas to target for improvement.
WHAT IS THE SELECTION PROCESS?
We usually have 8-10 evaluators running drills, collecting notes and scoring every single athlete who stands for selection on their skills in key areas. We make every effort to ensure a fair and thorough review. We are always happy to provide feedback to those who wish to hear it.
