COACHING PHILOSOPHY

Why Fever Lacrosse is different

COACHING PHILOSOPHY

Why Fever Lacrosse is different

WE PRIORITIZE FUNDAMENTAL SKILL INSTRUCTION

We take great athletes and we make great lacrosse players.  We teach the game - the positions, the vocabulary, the strategy and above all, the skills.  We emphasize the fundamentals and aim to have all of our players execute those fundamentals at a high level.  We know what tools players will need to be successful at the next level and we make those skills and drills a focal point of our instruction.

WE TAKE A LONG TERM VIEW

We do not mark the success of our program on wins and losses alone.  Our highly competitive play and impressive track record is a byproduct of our focus on the big picture - the long term commitment to our players and families.  We see the potential in athletes and understand that time spent with dedicated, hard working individuals will yield excellent team outcomes over time.  If you make the commitment to Fever, we will make the commitment to you.

WE COACH THE WHOLE ATHLETE

We love multi-sport athletes and encourage our players to participate in other sports besides lacrosse. Winning, losing, training and competing in any setting makes you an all-around better athlete. We try to help connect those dots between sports both on and off the field and hope that our approach makes our girls better athletes overall by fostering versatility, resilience, character and self-awareness.

WE ARE ADVISERS & ADVOCATES

We have a great deal of experience in helping players achieve their goals to play in college by helping them find the right social, academic and financial fit.  We help guide Fever families through the recruiting process as trusted advisers and strong advocates. We do not charge for this service. We are not agents. We believe that if you join our program, you shouldn't have to pay an additional fee for our attention and expertise.  If you want to learn more about our graduates please read our Alumnae page.

WE ARE CONSTANTLY EVOLVING

We are constantly evaluating and re-evaluating our program to make sure that we are offering an elite program that keeps current with the game. We pay attention to what happens at the college level to make sure that we are providing relevant, cutting-edge training that will prepare girls for the challenges they will face both on and off the field. In addition, we are constantly reviewing the services we provide and the way that we provide them to make sure that everyone in our Fever family has an awesome experience.

WHO SHOULD TRYOUT FOR FEVER?

If you are a female youth or high school lacrosse player who is willing to make a commitment and wants to compete on one of the top club teams in the region, you should tryout for Fever.  If you want a highly competitive experience with skilled coaches (many of whom have college coaching experience), we encourage you to stand for selection. We currently have teams for rising seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen at the high school level as well as teams for rising 5th grade through 8th graders at the youth level.

HOW ARE TEAMS CHOSEN?

We group players by (high school) graduation year. Rosters are selected by Fever staff using a scoring system during tryouts. Athletes are evaluated on a series of individual, small space and scrimmage-style drills and receive a composite score based on several criteria including: overall athleticism (speed, quickness, strength); knowledge of the game; stick skills; competitive drive and intensity.

HOW MUCH DOES FEVER COST?

Participation fees are comprised of Membership Dues and Tournament Fees.  Participation fees are paid each season (fall and summer) and vary depending on the tournaments we attend.  Please visit our TEAMS page for more information and up-to-date fees for each season.

WHAT DO FEES COVER?

Membership Fees cover field rentals, coaching stipends, equipment, insurance and scholarships for each team.  Tournament Fees cover tournament entry fees and coaches' travel expense for each team.  Participation fees DO NOT cover hotel, travel expenses or uniforms for players.

WHO WILL COACH MY DAUGHTER?

Fever is proud to have the best coaching staff in the region - if not the country. We are former college players and current college players (nearly all of whom are Fever alums). Many of us also coached in college at the DI level. At various times our staff has included players and coaches from the following schools: Duke, University of North Carolina, Loyola, Dartmouth, Campbell, Virginia Tech, University of Louisville, Guilford College, Robert Morris University, University of Rochester, Vanderbilt and Boston College among others.

WHEN ARE TRYOUTS?

Tryouts are held twice annually.  We hold a tryout at the end of January/beginning of February to select our roster for the upcoming summer and fall seasons.  After summer season, any players who choose not to return for the fall leave open spots which are filled through a smaller tryout held at the end of August/beginning of September.

ARE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE?

Yes.  We understand that playing a club sport demands a great deal of time as well as money.  We aim to make Fever affordable to as many people as possible.  Partial and full scholarships are available.  Please contact club director Katy O'Mara for more information.
